"Robert is the best personal trainer anyone could ask for! I began working out with Robert in March 2006, six months after I had gastric bypass surgery. I had been swimming already, but felt that I needed to work with a personal trainer to gain some upper body strength, as well as tone up my ever-changing body. Not only did he help me with all of that, but he also encouraged me to set goals for myself and then worked with me to help me attain those goals. Because of Robert, I am now running 3 miles every morning and loving it!! He was with me all he way, encouraging me to try one more time, inspiring me with his Christian values, helping me to see that I could do anything I put my mind to. And he was right!! I am so blessed to be able to call Robert my friend as well as my personal trainer!

Why Use A Personal Trainer?

A personal trainer will help you reach your fitness goals by designing safe and effective workout programs specifically for you based on your fitness level. A trainer is a source of motivation and encouragement, and a resource for the latest research on exercise. A personal trainer can help you fit exercise into your schedule.

Locating And Choosing A Personal Trainer

Start by asking friends, colleagues or staff members at your gym, or call the National Strength and Conditioning Association and ask for the nearest Certified Personal Trainer or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in your area. Once you locate a few trainers; take time to interview them to find one that best fit your fitness goals.

A checklist to use interview potential trainers:

Is the trainer currently certified by a nationally recognized organization such as the Cooper Institute?

What was required in the certification process?

Certifications such as the CPT are nationally recognized certifications that follow stringent standards for continued education and re-certification.

Experience & References

How long have they been a personal trainer

What types of clients have they worked with?

Can they provide a reference list?

Client Evaluation:

Does the trainer perform a health screening, fitness testing, and evaluate your current fitness level? A personal trainer should begin by learning about any past or current medical conditions; including injuries, pains, and cardiovascular condition. The trainer should conduct fitness tests to determine a safe and effective starting point for your training.
